Is Play The New Way To Pray?
Could play really be a form of payer?
Does that even make sense?
You may be thinking,
‘Prayer is serious business. The world is teetering on the edge of chaos and you are asking me to play? I just don’t get it.’
In truth, creative play is a prayerful reflection. At a recent THR round-table, Oprah reflected on the impact it had on her when Rainn Wilson shared this belief with her.
“The making of art is no different than prayerClick To Tweet
Let’s break this down to show you not only how play can be an effective form of prayer but also how you can use play to lead the world towards a more peaceful state.
When I was young, my minister told me “Prayer is asking for God’s help and meditation is listening to his response.”
I took this to heart, not only dedicating my life to my own personal growth through meditation, but also guiding others to do the same. I even developed the Conscious Meditation™ technique which teaches you to access wisdom of the meditative state while moving through your daily live.
Traditional prayer is asking our higher power for help. Meditation is listening for the response. Play is trusting that your prayers have been heard and answered. Click To Tweet
What Happens When You Shift Your Attention To Play?
When you shift your attention to play, you are making a conscious choice to enjoy the beauty of life.
You are choosing to focus on love and trust in the Divine Unfolding.
When you shift your attention to play, you are surrendering into an understanding that Love, God, and the Universe, are conspiring on your behalf.
When you shift your attention to play in the energies that bring you passion, you are no longer giving power to the energies and situations that you do not want.
You are claiming the life that you want and in doing so you are dispelling the energies that do not support the path of joy.
How Does Playing Support The World?
Shifting your attention to the vibration of play is far more powerful than you might imagine. In my article Answering This One Question Could Save The World, I discuss how we as a society, are so focused on attaining peace that we put little attention on what life will be like in a world beyond peace.
If we cannot imagine this a world of peace and joy, we cannot create it.
When we shift our attention from chaos to joy we are creating the pathway for our world to live in passion beyond conflict.
As the Dalai Lama shared, when you have peace at your core, you will be happy and you will have more friends.
“And,” he said, “everyone likes more friends.”
Isn’t this the core of our desires? To live in a world where we are all friends, free to enjoy the beauty of this earth experience?
What Does Play Mean To You?
Play means something different to each one of us.
Maybe for you it’s listening to or creating music. It may be theater, dancing, art or sports.
Maybe it is being in nature or hanging out with friends.
Play can be attending a rally or joining a committee.
What you do to play is not as important as the feeling you align with as you play.
According to Google, the definition of play is to:
“engage in activity for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical purpose”
This is the key, to making your play a prayer.
Embrace play consciously with an attention of giving yourself over to the joy of the moment with complete trust that God’s Got This~ The Universe Is Conspiring On Our Behalf.

One of my favorite moments is when I gaze into my empty fridge and pantry (which happens a lot when I am immersed in a creative project) then putting odd random ingredients together, I create a delectable masterpiece.
