Six New Years Resolution Tips To Help You Spiritually!

“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions” ~ Dalai Lama

As the new year of 2018 draws near you might already have intentions to set resolutions for yourself.

That could mean being more mindful of eating healthier; lifestyle changes from creating better spending habits to getting more rest.

These intentions are great, but have you ever thought of it from the perspective of your spirituality?

Setting resolutions in a spiritual sense will give you a different perspective of how you look at life with deeper meaning and purpose.

By decluttering our mental and emotional states of being, we remove the cobwebs that distract us from focusing on what really matters.

When you and your thoughts are in alignment you create a calm and peace within yourself. You should not only make this a commitment for the year but make this a daily commitment.

Here are a few ideas and tips…

      1. Disengage from technology a bit more…

If you tend to spend a lot of time playing video games, interacting on your social media or watching television. Time yourself to see how much time you really spend doing these activities. Cut back from those activities by 15 minutes. Set a timer that allows you to read, meditate and journal.

      2. Be present with loved ones and friends…

Instead of having a conversation over text, set up a time to have coffee or tea with that person and have that conversation face to face. It will be much more meaningful when you can hear the tone reflection in that person’s voice; feel their vibe; see their expressions.

Texting is great for a short message or a quick question, but while having a conversation over text you lose the personal connection of being in person. Conversation can get misunderstood and misconstrued. While visiting in person, leave your phone indisposed so each of you have each other’s full attention while having a meaningful conversation.

      3. Be mindful of your presence…

It is easy to get caught up in the drama of life, such as the negativity of the media or others in our lives. Be mindful not to project your thoughts and feelings, whether it be online or in the physical presence of others.

Yes, honor how you feel from that negativity, feel it, see it for what it is and let it go. If it does not affect you directly, let it go. Keep your thoughts and what you say in a positive manner. Let your light shine.

      4. Do something kind…

When you are feeling kind, do something kind for yourself or others. Rather than your joy leading you to smile, your smile can lead you to joy.

Even if you are not feeling like smiling, make it a daily habit. That smile will grow as will your innate quality of kindness. Your act of kindness could be small or large, such as a smile, a kind word or helping someone carry groceries to their car. These acts of kindness will boost joy for you and others.

     5. Forgive yourself and others…

There are times that we dislike behaviors or situations of ourselves and others. When you encounter things about yourself or others that annoy you, allow yourself the latitude to make mistakes so you can learn and grow from them.

Eventually you will welcome the feeling of being annoyed. Think of it as a gift to help you learn and grow from those situations. Over time these annoyances will become less and less as you learn to honor your commitments.

Being in a vulnerable state is that delicate place where we have the opportunity to unleash and experience deep unconditional love and a connection to our authenticity. Love yourself and others unconditionally.

      6. Keep a daily journal…

Keeping a daily journal will allow you to see the progression of your spiritual growth. It will inspire you to keep all these steps intact in your daily life.

These spiritual resolutions will only be transforming if you make them a lifetime commitment.

Whether you make spiritual resolutions in the coming year or not, I invite you to think about the areas of your life where renewing needs to take place.

Is it in your finances, your relationship with you or with someone or your attitude? Wherever it is, you are the only one that can change that. It starts with your intentions and your own actions to grow. Once you make that commitment, you will be forever grateful.
